Demonologist is a ghost-hunting game where the main objective is to use your steam-punk-inspired tools to gauge just what is causing a ruckus inside other people’s seemingly abandoned homes. You can either go in and fulfill that objective alone or have your friend help you.

The gameplay relies on you and your friends using tools to narrow down your options and deduce what is causing the haunting. There are tons of entities featured in this game, and it can be rather thrilling and confusing to decipher just what to do in a scary situation.
12 Watch For Moving Objects And Flickering Lights
While you’re going through the room asking entities to show themselves or prove that they’re there, some of them will start messing around with you. They can manipulate large objects, seemingly at random.
Not only that, they can play around with the lights and make them flicker or move. They can also manipulate the crosses you find hanging on the walls, turning them upside down at will. Try using your tools where you spot phenomena like this occurring to record your interactions.
11 Don’t Go In Blind
If the surrounding area seems too dark for you, you should head inside and start playing the game. Before exploring the place, the best thing to do is look for a light switch and turn up the ambiance.
It’s much nicer than strolling around in the dark in certain rooms with just your flashlight equipped. You don’t want to become an easy target while you’re perusing about.
10 Calling To The Dead Causes A Reaction
Once you're comfortable with the game, you’re bound to call out for any entities inside the house to show themselves. As cool as the concept is, you’re inviting trouble for yourself by doing exactly that, especially if you’re alone.
Be prepared for a jump scare or some weird unexplained anomaly to stir up your wits. Don’t freak out if your ghost pal shatters a light bulb or two since it probably prefers staying in the dark while it hunts you down for disturbing its peace.
9 Leave The House When You Need To
As scary as things are, you’re not always limited to staying inside the house once the spooky stuff starts. Most of your gear is outside in the parked van that brought you there, just leave the house and go get anything you need.

Make sure not to leave a friend behind; they might end up getting spooked if they’re left alone. It’s not easy to fend off all the ghosts on their own, especially after your own actions riled them up. Be careful, though; you might find something lurking outside.
8 Apparitions Are Bad Omens
During the course of your playthrough, you’ll have seemingly transparent entities come at you and try to scare you. Don’t worry; these entities won’t attack you or cause any harm beyond delivering a minor jump scare.
Although what comes after spotting such an anomaly might just end up trailing and attempting to murder you. Just pay attention to anything that doesn’t look see-through. That’s your cute to run for the hills. Apparitions can help you deduce what you’re dealing with as well.
7 Be Prepared To Run
Nothing’s wrong with a strategic retreat. Once you see something that isn't an apparition make a run toward you, take heed and evacuate the house immediately. The worst offenders often spout out the names of the entities haunting the area in a panic… that's not a great idea, to say the least.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re alone or with a fellow ghosthunter; spooky things will attack you regardless of your numbers, so don’t assume sticking together fixes everything.
6 Record Your Interactions
Eventually, you’ll get tired of getting spooked and running around all willy-nilly. You’ll have to play the objectives, and one of the ways to make that entire process easier for you is to list all the evidence you find.
Pay attention to the tools you use and familiarize yourself with their names. Once you experience an interaction with that tool, check it off on the evidence page and deduce what you’re up against on your own. That way, you can handle the situation better and nail all the tasks given to you.
5 Use The Ouija Boards
As if invading a haunted area wasn’t bad enough, the game expects you to look for these entities and actively call out to them. Once you enter the house, check the room for an Ouija board you can interact with.

As soon as you pick it up, you can turn on your mic and ask the ghost a question. It’s a great way to pinpoint exactly where they are since they tell you themselves. It’s better than going in blindly with an EMF reader alone. Beware, though; they can break.
4 Try To Stay Sane
In Demonologist, your character has to work with a sanity meter. Experiencing someone dying in front of you is definitely jarring enough for your character to start getting spooked easily. Don’t freak out if your screen starts shaking or getting fuzzy.
The best way to get rid of your symptoms is to evacuate the premises as soon as possible. Otherwise, you might risk premature death, and you won’t be any closer to solving the mystery behind it all.
3 Do NOT Stare At Paintings
One of the worst ways to give yourself a jumpscare is to give any painting a death stare and then be bold enough to call out the name written on it. This will trigger a jumpscare that’s sure to have you running out of the room shrieking.
If you're feeling particularly mischievous and are playing with others, you can suggest to an unknowing teammate to do exactly that. As long as they're a good sport about that kind of thing, at least.
2 Buy Equipment
This game is all about making you find out what’s causing a haunting and giving you objectives to prove it to the agency you’re working for. In exchange for your valiant efforts, you get the money that you can trade in for more equipment.
Equipment is essential in this game if you want to find out and correctly guess what entity you’re dealing with or are potentially angering with your presence in any given room. Don’t forget to purchase some before starting your run.
1 Expect A Slow Progression
Be ready to play this game for a long time since you have to beat level one at least ten times to progress to the next one. While this hefty grind can get rather tedious, it does prepare you for what’s to come later.
You’ll get used to it since even buying a candle or a camera will cost you an arm and a leg. No price is too steep for the satisfaction of solving the mystery, apparently. Once you get to level 5, you can make the game a little harder if you’d like.
